She was the first woman of either race to make money and become wealthy and successful completely on her own. Madam Walker only had 2 dollars and a dream when she began her business of manufacturing and distributing hair growth improvement shampoo. With this money, she quickly became a philanthropist because of her will to help other people grow and become self sufficient on their own.
